Just finished this for National Theatre Wales in collaboration with Simon Clode Films
Some of the lucky few to have gotten their hands on a ticket discuss what they are expecting from National Theatre Wales’ new production of Aeschylus’s ‘The Persians’ [NTW06] in a new version by Kaite O’Reilly and directed by Mike Pearson. The cast is also made up of former company members of internationally acknowledged experimental performance company ‘Brith Gof’
The show itself is a retelling of the oldest surviving play in the history of theatre (FACT!) and is set in an MOD training facility in the Brecon Beacons.
As for the video: Simon sent me a completed cut and a lot of reference material in the form of the shows publicity material – created by Elfen. We wanted to create a feeling of key bits of information being omitted from the interviews. We opted to delete one phrase completely and to encrypt a lot of the information in morse or by QR code. The voices were altered and eyes blanked out to protect the identity of the interviewees (in one case, all trace of the original video was removed), but by motion tracking their movements we still get a feeling of their excitement at the prospect of the show.
The music is a take on the soundtrack we used for the original launch video which you can watch here. It’s called Spooky and I’ve had it rattling around the archives for years.
A bit of basic motion tracking, a touch of distortion and a lot of octaver pedal along go a long way.
